Beyond Boundaries First UWB Conference

Thanks to all those who participated in the event, it was a great success with the standard of presentations both oral and poster being excellent.
Just under 100 people visited the conference throughout the day, 14 people presented their work and 24 submitted poster presentations, 20 schools across the university were represented.
Those participating in the conference were entered into the ‘John Perkins’ Prize for Excellence’ competition for the best oral presentation and poster presentation, the oral presentation prize was £150 and the poster presentation £100, the prize is named in recognition of the valuable contribution John Perkins has made to the University and the experiences of research students.
The winner of the oral presentation was Elizabeth Allen from the School of Biological Sciences who gave a presentation on 'What controls seedling establishments?'

The winner of the poster presentation was Jacqualyn Eales from Biological Sciences with a poster named 'The genetics of island invasions: Recent colonisations by Caribbean lizards.'
This year we had a very strong showing from the College of Natural Sciences. We hope that now we have raised the profile of the RSF and the conference across the whole university, we will see more presentations from other colleges next year. It would be ideal to have healthy competition between the schools leading to ever-increasing academic excellence and cross-fertilisation of ideas.
